Funeral service for Mr. Norman Wesley McKay was held at 2 PM Saturday, May 14, 2022, at John E. Stephens Chapel with Rev. John E. Stephens and Rev. Mike Skinner officiating. Interment in Cedar Lawn Cemetery. Visitation was at 11 AM Saturday till time for service. John E. Stephens Chapel Funeral Service in charge of arrangements.

Mr. McKay, 86, passed away peacefully with his wife by his side Friday, May 6, 2022 at his home in Chalmette, LA, where he has lived for 47 years.

He was born January 10, 1936 in Philadelphia, MS.  

He graduated from East Central Junior College, obtained his BS degree from University Southern Mississippi, master’s degree from Loyola University in New Orleans

and Educational Specialist degree from Mississippi State University. Mr. McKay taught school 40 years. After teaching 3 years in Mississippi, on the coast he went to Jefferson Parish Vo-Tech School in New Orleans, then to St. Bernard Community College / Nunez Community College in Chalmette when he retired. He was a member of St. Bernard Parish Retired Teachers.

On August 3, 1974 he married the love of his life, Sarah Pauline McKay. He was very devoted and loved his family, especially his grands. He was a nature lover and enjoyed trees, plants and flowers. His back yard a “French Quarter Garden” was his pride and joy.

He also enjoyed basketball. He was a legacy member of Grace Community Church in New Orleans, aka Grace Baptist Church.

Mr. McKay was preceded in death by his parents, Guy McKay and Ella Myra Cumberland McKay; Siblings, Lucille Houston, Roy McKay, Raymond McKay, Emmett McKay, Richard “Dickie” McKay, Mae Pou and Frances Long.

Mr. McKay is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, 9 months, and 3 days, Sarah Pauline McKay; Daughter, Kylea Moran and her husband, Tony; Son, Kerry McKay; (4) Grandchildren, Kaylon, Reagan and Brewer Moran and Madison McKay; a host of nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers: Kerry McKay, Tony Moran, Mike McKay, Ricky McKay, Jeff Long and Kenny Call.

Honorary pallbearers: Brewer Moran, Tommy Long Jr., Marc Petty, Terry Long, Bill Long, John Call, Lee Call, Jackie Farrow, Frankie Farrow, Tony Pitre, Craig Moran, Ryan Buras, Mark Vogt, Jimmy Hearty, David Scharfenstein, Tony Duplessis, Leon Dressel and John Breakfield.
