No new deaths reported were here as COVID cases rise.

Neshoba County recorded 283 new COVID-19 cases and no new deaths in the past week, according to the MSDH’s Jan. 3 report.

Neshoba County has now recorded a total of 7,125 cases of COVID-19 and 210 deaths since the pandemic began in March 2020.

Neshoba General announced Monday it was experiencing high volumes of COVID patients in the emergency room and clinics.  

“We are also seeing an increase in Covid admissions to the hospital,” Neshoba General said on Facebook announcing a visitation policy they outlined.

“We can no longer allow visitation except under the circumstances outlined in the attached policy until the surge subsides,” the announcement said. “Thank you for understanding.  Stay Safe!”

Among other things, the advisors said visitation is permitted at the Neshoba County Nursing Home following the most up to date guidelines from the Mississippi State Department of Health (MSDH) and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), officials said.  The social media post advised calling 601-663-1377 for the current guidelines for visitation as they are subject to changing frequently.

The Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians reported 219 new positive cases of COVID-19 and one new death in the past week as of Jan. 1. The total number of positive cases for the Tribe now stands at 2,853, with 125 deaths. The Tribe reported four new hospitalizations in the past week.

As of Jan. 3, 30% of Neshoba County is fully vaccinated, and 34% of people in the county have received at least one dose, according to the MSDH.

Neshoba Central Elementary School and Neshoba Central High school each reported between one and five positive cases of COVID-19 for both teachers and students for the week of Dec. 7 through Dec. 13, the latest date for which statistics are available. No students or staff were quarantined in that period.

Statewide, since the pandemic began in March 2020, 319,504 confirmed COVID-19 cases have been recorded by the MSDH along with 241,758 probable cases, totaling 561,262 cases. There have been 6,996 confirmed COVID-19 deaths, along with 3,459 probable deaths, totaling 10,455 deaths.
