Neshoba Central’s Jarquez Hunter has been named Mr. Football for Class 5A football.

Hunter was one of six players — one from each MHSAA classification — to be selected as Mississippi Mr. Football recipients for the 2020 season in partnership with the New Orleans Saints, Mississippi High School Activities Association and the Mississippi Association of Coaches.

Hunter leads the charge for the Rockets with 1,767 all-purpose yards. Hunter has rushed for 1,418 yards on 198 carries and has scored 22 touchdowns. He has caught 16 passes for 201 yards. Hunter has 84 yards in kickoff returns and 64 in punt returns.

This is one more honor for Hunter, who is a Dandy Dozen and has been selected to play in the Mississippi-Alabama All-Star Football game in December.

The Rockets were scheduled to play in the first round of the Class 5A playoffs Friday night. However, their opponent, Lafayette was forced to forfeit after the team was quarantined with COVID-19. The Rockets will move on to the second round of the playoffs. But this means the Rockets have not played a game in three weeks.

Other players being named Mr. Football are as follows:

Class 1A: Robert Henry, Lumberton

Class 2A: Ty Keyes, Taylorsville

Class 3A: Chandler Pittman, Magee

Class 4A: Ty Cooper, Louisville

Class 5A: Jarquez Hunter, Neshoba Central

Class 6A: Justin Walley, D’Iberville
