Neshoba jockey recovering after being thrown Sunday
A jockey who was thrown from his horse during Sunday’s races at the Neshoba County Fair was airlifted to Jackson but is doing well and ready to ride again.
Despite numerous lacerations and multiple broken bones, the family of Jordan Goss, the jockey who was injured late Sunday afternoon, said he is in “good spirits.”
His sister-in-law, Savanna Goss, said Goss told them in the hospital he was ready to ride again.
“He said he is already ready to come back to the Fair and ride horses,” she said.
Goss of Neshoba County was thrown from his horse Sunday at about 5 p.m. when Dusty, the horse he was riding, ran into the fence at the turn on the southwest end of the race track. Savanna Goss said the horse flipped over the fence, and Jordan went under the fence.
Jordan was taken to Neshoba General, where he was subsequently airlifted to the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson.
“As of today, the doctors said he will not have to have surgery,” Savanna Goss said.
Savanna Goss said the horse is fine as well.
Jocie Fowler has organized a GoFundMe for Goss.
“He is doing really good, but he has a long road to recovery,” Fowler said.
As of Tuesday morning, the fundraiser has had 24 donations towards their $5,000 goal.
“We know that everyone has asked what they can do to help,” Fowler said. “And this is the best thing to do right now other than pray! Many of you know the expense of a hospital stay, and they would greatly appreciate anything. Keep those prayers coming.”
