Neshoba Central softball falls in state finals
Neshoba Central softball saw their stellar season come to an end on Saturday, falling 10-7 to George County in game three of the MHSAA 6A state championship series.
After falling 4-1 in game one, the Lady Rockets battled back to take a thrilling 7-6 in game two, before falling 10-7 in Saturday’s season finale.
Miley Thomas, Laura Eakes, and Taelyn Mingo all had two hits in Saturday’s season finale. Gracyn Grisham, Lacie Morris, and Taylor Holley added one hit a piece as well for the Lady Rockets.
Raeleigh Cumberland started in the pitching circle for Neshoba Central, giving up five earned runs, six hits, and striking out one in 3 ⅔ innings of work. Miley Thomas pitched 2 ⅓ innings in relief, giving up no earned runs, two hits, and striking out one.
Overall it was a phenomenal postseason run and great overall season for the Neshoba Central softball program. The Lady Rockets finish the season with a 24-11 record and won the Region 2-6A regular season title, having only one loss in region play.
In the postseason, Neshoba Central swept Center Hill, won two of three against Grenada, and won two of three against South Panola to get to the state championship series against George County.
This was the first time since 2022 that Neshoba Central had made it back to the state championship series.
