This week is a first time for the Neshoba Central Rocket baseball team.

The Rockets won their first North State Class 5A championship last week with a hard-

fought series win over defending state champion Saltillo. Now 29- 5 Neshoba Central will play in their first state championship series against East Central.

The first game was Tuesday night at Trustmark Park in Pearl. Game two of the series will be Thursday, and the third game, if

necessary, is scheduled for Saturday. All games are slated to start at 7 p.m.

East Central comes in at 26-6. They defeated Vancleave to capture the South State championship.

“It’s going to be tough,” said Coach Jonathan Jones. “They are a real good team. They had two good pitchers, Hopefully we can continue what we have been doing.”

The Rockets are practicing between games to stay sharp.

“This is our first time in the state finals,” Jones said. “Our guys are trying hard but at this time of the year, we are trying to keep their timing down. Practice is a little tough. They have been doing it since August,” Jones said.

“They know that is ahead of them and hopefully they can continue on the next few days,” Jones said. “Maybe we will get a

little better. We will be doing a lot of hitting Monday and Wednesday. We will go over the scouting report for the other team.”

Jesse Hancock will start the first game on the mound.
