Neshoba baseball, softball have success on field

Local baseball and softball teams are in the thick of region and district play, with multiple teams having successful weeks on the diamond.

Neshoba Central baseball took a 3-0 region win over Ridgeland, but fell 6-1 to Southeast Lauderdale, moving to 10-9 on the season. The Rockets will play a two-game region series against Vicksburg on Tuesday and Friday, along with a road matchup against Quitman on Saturday.

Neshoba Central softball picked up a 2-0 win over Warren Central and a 8-5 win over Kosciusko, improving to 13-6 on the year. The Lady Rockets will travel to Warren Central on Tuesday for a region matchup.

Choctaw Central baseball swept a doubleheader with Leake Central, winning 15-0 and 12-0, improving to 4-12 on the season. The Warriors will play a two-game region series against Northeast Lauderdale on Tuesday and Friday.

Choctaw Central softball picked up three wins last week, winning twice over Newton County and 10-0 over Northeast Lauderdale to improve to 14-6 on the season. The Lady Warriors are scheduled to host Columbus on Tuesday.

Philadelphia baseball split a region series with Union, winning 2-1 and falling 12-9, moving to 6-5 on the season. The Tornadoes will play a two-game region series against Eupora on Tuesday and Friday this week.

Philadelphia softball was swept by Union, falling to 2-9 on the season. The Lady Tornadoes will host Columbus on Thursday.

Union baseball split a region series with Philadelphia, winning 12-9 and falling 2-1, along with falling 14-4 to Lake to move to 11-8 on the season. The Yellow Jackets will play Sebastopol in a region series on Tuesday and Friday this week.

Union softball picked up three wins last week, two over Philadelphia and a 13-12 win over Northeast Lauderdale, improving to 13-9 on the season. The Lady Yellow Jackets will play a region series against Sebastopol on Tuesday and Thursday.

Leake Academy baseball went 1-2 in their district series with Lamar, but picked up a 10-0 win over Park Place Christian, moving to 16-6 on the season. The Rebels will finish their district series with Park Place Christian on Tuesday and Thursday this week.
