Ruthie Nash defeated Ajatha Nichols by eight votes in the runoff election for the Democrat nomination for the Ward 4 alderman post, according to unofficial returns.

Nash received 104 votes or 52% of the vote. Nichols received 96 votes or 48% of the vote.

In the April 6 primary election, Nash and Nichols garnered enough votes to advance to the runoff election for the Ward 4 seat being vacated by Cassie Henson who mounted an unsuccessful bid for the mayoral nomination.

Nichols received 129 votes, or 31.62%, of the total 408 votes cast in that race, and Nash got 100 votes, or 24.51%, of the total in that race.

Nash will face independent candidate Shaun Seales in the June 8 general election.
