MVP Keats has record-setting game for All-Stars

Neshoba Central’s Carly Keats closed out her high school basketball career in a spectacular fashion as she was named the Most Valuable Player for her team in the 32nd Mississippi-Alabama girls basketball all-star game which was held last Saturday at Mississippi College.

Ironically, Mississippi’s 89-81 loss was the only game that Keats and Neshoba Central teammate Hama’ya Fielder did not win during the 2021-2022 season. They helped to lead Neshoba Central to a Class 5A state championship earlier this month with a 33-0 record.

For Keats, it was the second MVP award in as many weeks. She was named MVP of the state championship game against Columbus,

Keats finished the all-star game with 24 points while Fielder scored nine points. Both were credited with three rebounds.

Also, Keats put her name in the record book for the Mississippi All-Star team. When she hit 6-of-9 three point shots in the game, that made her the all-time three-point shooter for the Mississippi  girls team.

Alabama led 20-15 after the first quarter. They outpointed Mississippi 21-19 in the second quarter and led 41-34 at the half.

Alabama stretched its lead in the third quarter, outpointing Mississippi 24-15. Mississippi came back in the fourth quarter to outscored Alabama 32-24 but it was too little, too late,

The Alabama boys won their game, 96-89. Alabama leads the boys’ series 16 to 15 and the girls’ series 17 to 14.
