Most of Fairview firefighters resign
Most of the Fairview Volunteer Fire Department has resigned over a dispute with its board.
Seventeen firefighters of 22 resigned Monday night following a community meeting with the board. Two of the five board members resigned as well.
According to a person familiar with the meeting, the board’s actions restricted certain rights of not only the firefighters but the Fairview community as a whole, leading to widespread frustration. However, no one is saying specifically what rights were violated.
After the resignations, fire radio traffic on Monday night indicated that several firefighters were officially going out of service.
In response, county officials confirmed that the nearest volunteer fire department would provide mutual aid to ensure coverage in the event of a fire call.
