Mississippi’s Giant Houseparty in full swing
Political speaking starts this morning at the Neshoba County Fair and runs through Thursday.
So far, Fairgoers have had a wet and muddy few days, but the forecast is for clear skies for the rest of the week.
Each speaker has 10 minutes, with speeches starting at 9:30 a.m. with Philadelphia’s the Hon. Steven Kilgore, Republican candidate for District Attorney for the 8th Circuit Court District.
He will be followed at 9:40 a.m. by the Hon. C. Scott Bounds, candidate for Republican State Representative in District 44. Bounds represents Neshoba and Leake counties.
At 9:50 a.m., Hon. DeKeither Stamps, Democrat Public Service Commissioner candidate for the Central District, will take the stage.
Following him at 10:00 a.m. will be Hon. Willie Simmons, Democrat Transportation Commissioner candidate for the Central District, who is expected to discuss infrastructure and transportation projects.
The speeches will continue at 10:20 a.m. with Ty Pinkins, Democrat candidate for the U.S. Senate from Mississippi, who will share his campaign platform and vision for the state. At 10:30 a.m., Hon. Shad White, Republican State Auditor of Mississippi, will address the audience, likely focusing on fiscal accountability and transparency.
The Hon. Delbert Hosemann, Republican Lt. Governor of Mississippi, will take the stage at 10:40 a.m. His address will cap off the morning’s speeches.
Day two on Thursday commences with a slate of nine candidates and state officials.
Speeches start at 9:20 a.m. with Byron Carter, a candidate for District 1, Place 3 on the Mississippi Supreme Court.
Gov. Tate Reeves will round out the political speaking at 10:40 a.m.
The Meridian Day Program is scheduled for 11 a.m. Wednesday and Hometown Proud is on Thursday.
Another day of horse and harness racing begins at 2 p.m. today and tomorrow and at 1:30 p.m. on Friday.
A full slate of music is on tap for the rest of the week. Blackberry Smoke is tonight (Wednesday) at 8 p.m.
The A.J. Yates Jr. Memorial Late Night Sing is tonight at the Pavilion at 1 a.m.
Tyler Braden and Dillon Carmichael play Thursday evening and The Frontmen will play the last night of the Fair before the fireworks show.
Season Tickets are $60, day tickets are $30, and children nine and under are free.
