MBCI voters choose Tribal Council representatives

Voters from six communities of the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians (MBC) went to the polls Tuesday to decide who will represent them on the Tribal Council.

Positions were open in Bogue Chitto, Conehatta, Crystal Ridge, Pearl River, Standing Pine and Tucker. The unofficial results are as follows.

Bogue Chitto

Two seats were up for grabs in the Bogue Chitto box with votes also coming from Henning, Tennessee. There were 14 candidates. Kendall S. Wallace and Angela S. Hundley were the apparent winners with 285 and 213 votes, respectively.

Also receiving votes were Elyse Willis with 76 votes, Gabriel Bell 68, Norman D. Samuel Jr. 57, Jackie Morris 46, Donnie Hickman 42, Michael Morris 41, Randy Lee Jim 41, Tomika L. Bell 27, Patricia Henry 21, Gabriel K. Thompson 15, Garrick Stoliby 13, John Levi Bell Jr. 9.

Pearl River

Twenty candidates sought two seats on the council from the Pearl River Community. Kent Wesley finished with the most votes at 233, followed by Deborah Martin with 226.

Also receiving votes were Barry McMillan with150 votes, Lola McMillan Parderson 129, Lakeishia Wallace 101, Kyle C. John 86, Janis D. Jimmie 85, Robert D. Ben 77, Jennifer Willis 74, Barbara L. Wesley 63, Stella York Willis 60, Brian Mask 56, Oretta Conrad 52, Robert Garcia Jr. 45, Jimmy Jim 37, Velvet Williams 34, William Comby III 24, Austin K. Tubby 21, Martha Henry 17, Michelle Jefferson Jim 6.

Conehatta

Eight candidates sought two seats to represent the Conehatta Community. Hilda Nickey and Gregory Shoemake were the apparent winners with 178 votes and 155 votes, respectively.

Also receiving votes were Tarina K. Anderson with 149 votes, Max M. Anderson 135, Shaun Grant 134, Troy L. Chickaway 100 and Eric Hickman 50.

Crystal Ridge

Four candidates sought the one seat to represent the Crystal Ridge Community. Christopher Eaves was the apparent winner with 59.

Also receiving votes were Joseph Wesley with 17 votes, Leola Clark with 5 and Tim G. Willis 2.

Standing Pine

Three candidates sought the one seat on the council to represent the Standing Pine Community. Lorianna Ashapanek was the apparent winner with 189 votes.

Also receiving votes were LaLanie D. Denson with 93 votes and Jeric Anderson with 44.

Tucker

Seven candidates sought the one seat on the council to represent the Tucker Community. Demado C. Mingo was the apparent winner with 104 votes.

Also receiving votes were Dorothy Wilson with 100 votes, Linda McMillan 56, Kevin Taylor Sr. 28, Lisa M. Charlie 20, Otis Mingo 11 and Lee R. Chickaway 2.
