Mayor on the ballot Tuesday
Voters will head to the polls on Tuesday, June 3, to choose a new mayor and decide several alderman races in Philadelphia’s municipal election.
Republican Jim Fulton, who ran unopposed in the primary and received 466 votes, will face Democrat Leroy Clemons in the mayoral race.
Clemons secured the Democratic nomination after a runoff victory over Cassie Henson Hickman, winning 379 to 345 votes.
In the Ward 1 race, Democrat Avia J. Jackson, who also ran unopposed in the primary and received 113 votes, will compete against Republican Bert Turcotte in the general election.
In Ward 2, Republican Mark Cheatham defeated Bill Griffis 149 to 88 in the primary. With no Democratic challenger, Cheatham will run unopposed in the general election.
In Ward 3, Democrat Darnell Horne defeated incumbent Alderman James A. Tatum 99 to 58 in the primary. Horne will face Republican Kenneth L. “Kenny” Hillman in the general election.
In Ward 4, incumbent Alderman Shaun Seales, running as an Independent, is unopposed in the general election.
Incumbent Republican James Waltman ran unopposed in the Alderman-at-Large primary. He will face Democrat Zaus Kirkland, who won the Democratic nomination by defeating Ajatha M. Nichols 372 to 341.
A total of 1,166 votes were cast in the April 1 primary, slightly down from the 1,207 votes in 2021. Philadelphia has 4,394 registered voters, according to the City Clerk.
