Maybelle Ben Brolick
Maybelle Ben Brolick passed away at Baptist-Anderson Hospital in Meridian, MS on November 6, 2024. A Celebration of Life service will be held in Spring of 2025. Date and time to be determined at a later date.
Maybelle was born on May 14, 1939 in Neshoba, County to her parents Charlie William Ben Sr. and Emeline Willis Ben. She grew up in the Standing Pine community in Leake County. She obtained her high school diploma on May 23, 1958, and obtained her college diploma on May 22, 1959, both from Hinds Jr. College. Maybelle then pursued further education as a Cytotechnologist at the University of Tennessee-Memphis after which she trained in Jacksonville, FL.
She began working as a cytotech at Rush Hospital in Meridian, MS on January 14,1963 and continued working there for 54 years. She retired on August 10, 2017. She was inducted into the Rush Hall of Fame in 2013. On the day of her 50 years of service celebration at Rush’s, the mayor of Meridian at that time, Mr. Percy Bland, proclaimed that day, Thursday, October 24, as “Maybelle Brolick Day” in the City of Meridian. She has a photo/caricature on the Rush Hospital Wall of Fame. Maybelle truly enjoyed her work and especially enjoyed her co-workers.
Maybelle’s hobbies included working in the yard, solving Soduku puzzles, and she absolutely loved watching and cheering on the Ole Miss Rebels.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Charlie William Ben, Sr and Emeline Willis Ben; brother, Robert Charles Benn; sister-in-law, Shirley Thompson Benn; sister, Grace Opal Ben Jewell; brother-in-law, John (Jack) Jewell; nieces, Cheryl Sorrell and Cristina Benn; nephews, Charles Sorrell, Benjamin Sorrell Jr.; great nephews, Benjamin Sorrell, III (lil Ben), Brennan Sorrell, and Vincent Morgan.
She is survived by her daughter, Donna Brolick; brother, Charlie William Benn, Jr (Sukie); nieces, Billie Artichoker(Butch); Vicky Sorrell(Don), Melanie Benn, Denise John, and Rebecca Benn; cousin, Bonnie Martin; grand cats, Bryn and Jinji Jade, and a host of great and grand nieces and nephews, relatives, and friends.
