Mary L. Holmes

Graveside services for Mary L. Holmes were held Wednesday, May 5, 2021, at 11 a.m. from Herbert Cemetery with Rev. Hal Selby officiating.  McClain-Hays Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Holmes, of Starkville, died Saturday, May 1, 2021.

She was a native of Neshoba County and lived most of her life in Starkville.  She married Willie Holmes in Meridian, MS, on November 18, 1957. She began her career opening Winn Dixie grocery stores, a job she adored; and   spent most of her adult life as a banker from which she retired.  Mary loved her family; her cat Muffin; and MSU football.

Mrs. Holmes was preceded in death by husband, Willie Holmes; parents, Vardaman and Estelle Williamson; sisters, Edna Earl Barrett, Dorothy Williams and Sarah Alice Barrett; nieces, Cynthia Tolbert and Francis Pierce; nephew, Calvin “Sonny” Williams, Jr.
