Man sliced in face after love quarrel
A Florence man is accused of cutting another man’s face while visiting an ex-girlfriend here.
The man, David Clark Summerlin, 40, 3492 Highway 49 South, Florence, was arrested and charged with aggravated assault, according to Neshoba County Sheriff Eric Clark.
Clark said the man’s ex-girlfriend was also arrested for attempting to help Summerlin evade arrest. The woman, Whitney Welborn Carman, 41, 10420 Road 296, Union, was arrested and charged with hindering prosecution.
Clark said deputies were called to Carman’s home on Tuesday, March 25, at about 7 a.m. reporting a man had been assaulted with a knife. Deputies found a male victim with a cut on his cheek.
“He was cut really, really badly,” Clark said.
Investigators identified Summerlin as a suspect in the assault after it was determined he had fled into the woods before law enforcement arrived on the scene. Clark said the victim is Carman’s current boyfriend and Summerlin was described as the ex-boyfriend.
Deputies had been called to an incident near the house the previous day where the victim was allegedly hit by a car driven by Summerlin at the intersection of Road 296 and Road 701 but no charges were field in that incident.
Clark said Carman and Summerlin were arrested in Richland on March 27 by Richland Police. Clark said RPD pulled the couple over and while attempting to arrest Summerlin on a warrant related to the assault on March 25, had a struggle with Carman and had to subdue her.
