Man found not guilty in 2020 teen on teen shooting death

A Philadelphia teenager at the time of the incident has been found not guilty of first degree murder in the July 2020 shooting death of another teenager.

Austin Jarriel, 19 at the time of the incident, was on trial for the shooting death of 18-year-old Brayden “Brody” Talbert in an incident that occurred inside a Philadelphia home on July 30, 2020.

“This happened in a house,” District Attorney Steven Kilgore said. “There was no doubt who the shooter was. The question was, was he acting in self defense.

“There was evidence both ways. That’s why we have juries. The evidence was presented and apparently they thought there was a reasonable doubt.”

Philadelphia Police responded to a call that day concerning a gunshot victim in the area of north Donald Avenue. 

Officers discovered Talbert suffering from multiple gunshot wounds at a residence there. He was transported to Neshoba General by ambulance where he was later pronounced dead. 

Witnesses identified Jarriel as the shooter. He later turned himself in to Philadelphia Police and was charged with Talbert’s murder.
