A Philadelphia man has been charged with murder in a weekend shooting death in northwest Philadelphia.

Police are investigating the homicide reported on Saturday evening on A Avenue after a suspect turned himself in to authorities.

Richard Devane Simmons, 34, of Philadelphia was charged with the murder of 46 year old Willie Latimer of Philadelphia.

Philadelphia Police said that the shooting occurred about 8 p.m. on Saturday.

Philadelphia Police Det. Bobby Pattillo said that Simmons allegedly shot Latimer multiple times.

Latimer was then transported to Neshoba General and airlifted to University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson where he was pronounced dead.

Pattillo said that the subsequent investigation identified Simmons as a suspect. Simmons turned himself in on Monday morning, he said.

Police are still investigating the incident and interviewing witnesses for a clear picture of what happened, Pattillo said.

Triplett Teresa on Saturday posted on the Neshoba Central Classmates Facebook page page: “Asking for prayers for the family of Willie Latimer. Class of 1994 graduate who will always and forever be embraced by his smile, personality, and heart. RiP Willie.”
