A man wanted for vehicle theft in Neshoba County has been arrested in Louisiana, officials said.

James Michael Franklin is in the custody of the Ouachita Parish Louisiana Sheriff’s Office facing a charge of vehicle theft, said Neshoba County Sheriff Eric Clark.

Franklin is being held at the Ouachita Correctional Center awaiting extradition.

Clark said that the case started on Tuesday, July 7.

Clark said that around noon last Tuesday they were notified that a vehicle was missing and it looked like it made a fast exit from a property on County Road 355.

“Evidence of a fast getaway were all that remained at the residence on County Road 355,” Clark said. “The homeowner noticed a small tree along the drive was uprooted, black marks in the driveway and ruts across the yard near where the truck was parked.”

The resident called the Sheriff’s Office and reported the missing vehicle. Clark said that he immediately received a call from night shift deputy Todd Adcock who overheard the radio traffic and reported an incident he experienced earlier that morning.

Officer Adcock stated around 1:30 a.m., he responded to an auto accident at the intersection of Roads 361 and 353.

When Officer Adcock arrived, the vehicle was being towed by a white Chevrolet 4x4 pickup. The driver was described as a white male with a tattoo near his eye.

Deputy Josh Jolly used the information provided to make contact with the man whos truck was being towe, helpinh him identify Franklin as the man with the face tattoo earlier that morning.

Clark said that investigators with the Sheriff’s Office quickly entered the stolen truck into the National Crime Information Center crime database. Clark said that they were then able to gather actionable information.

“Information began to flow in, leading investigators to believe that Franklin gathered clothes and headed to Louisiana,” Clark said.  “A BOLO was issued for Mississippi and adjoining states in connection with this theft. Social media was also used to alert residents of the incident.”

Within hours, the Ouachita Parish Louisiana Sheriff’s Office made contact with the truck as it was abandoned on the Interstate in the West Monroe area.

The truck was recovered at around 9 a.m. the next morning, Thursday, July 8. A local towing company secured the vehicle and advised the condition of the truck. The wrecker driver stated the truck was in fair condition, a few dents, but believed to be abandoned due to lack of fuel. The truck has been released to the owner.

Ouachita Parish Louisiana Sheriff’s Office took James Michael Franklin into custody without incident later that evening at 7:30 p.m.
