A Philadelphia man whose teenage son was murdered in March is in custody following a police chase early Sunday morning.

Jeremiah Hathorn, 43, of Philadelphia was charged with felony fleeing and resisting arrest by struggle following the 2 a.m. pursuit.

Philadelphia Detective Bobby Pattillo said Monday that Philadelphia PD received a call concerning shots fired between two vehicles in the county. They also received vehicle descriptions.

Officers spotted one of the suspect vehicle within city limits and attempted to perform a traffic stop. Patillo said the vehicle then fled and was pursued, first through the city and then into the county.

The driver, later identified as Hathorn, was taken into custody in the county after wrecking his vehicle. No weapon was recovered when Hathorn was arrested. Police said it was unclear what role the other vehicle played.

The circumstances of Sunday's shooting and chase remain under investigation. Sheriff Eric Clark said that the ordeal started in Winston County and that local authorities, as well as the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation personnel and Winston County law enforcement officials, are investigating the incident.

"MBI and Neshoba Sheriff's Department are interviewing all involved," Clark said. "We know it started in Winston County, we are trying to find out what happened in Neshoba."

Hathorn is the father of Jeremiah Hathorn, Jr., who was shot and killed around 11:15 p.m. on Lewis Avenue on the night of March 25. His alleged killer, 17-year-old Korzay Willis of Philadelphia, was arrested in April and charged with murder.

Police have not said if Sunday's incident is related to the March incident.
