Make-A-Wish golf tourney Sept. 9

Wish Upon A Par, a golf tournament which will benefit Make-A-Wish Mississippi. Is scheduled for September 9 at the Philadelphia Country Club.

Tournament organizers have been discussing the possibility of holding a golf tournament before the COVID-19 pandemic. It was delayed until now. The committee is made up of Heath Stribling, Kirk Morgan, Eric Prince and Bob Posey. The tournament will tee off at 12:30 p.m. with a shot gun start.

Proceeds from the tournament will benefit the Make-A-Wish Mississippi chapter.

According to the chapter’s website, a wish experience can be a game-changer for a child with a critical illness.

“This one belief guides us in everything we do at Make-A-Wish. It inspires us to grant life-changing wishes for children going through so much. It compels us to be creative in exceeding the expectations of every wish kid. It drives us to make our donated resources go as far as possible. Most of all, it's the founding principle of our vision to grant the wish of every eligible child,” the organization stated on its website.

“We thought it would be good to start a benefit golf tournament, do it locally at the country club,” said Kirk Morgan, a member of the tournament committee. “Make-A-Wish is a great cause and means a lot to people. We just wanted to find a way to support it.”

The tournament will be a day of fun and fellowship enjoyed by sponsors, players and wish families with an immediate impact on the Make-A-Wish Mississippi mission and help raise funds in the Neshoba County area to help grant more wishes to children in our community. In the midst of this world-wide pandemic, there have been families in our community who have also heard the devastating news that their child has been diagnosed with a critical illness. Hospital stays, doctor’s visits and treatments mean their life will never be the same. With COVID-19, new health worries are present, as well as an added sense of isolation and vulnerability for wish kids and their families.

The committee is looking for community partners for the Wish Upon a Par golf tournament to help grant wishes for the 130-plus Mississippi children with critical illnesses waiting on their wish to come true.
