Lyle Slaton
Robert Lyle Slaton, 53, of Falls of Rough, KY, formerly of Madisonville, passed away on Tuesday, September 17, 2024, at his home.
He was born on August 16, 1971, in Louisville, KY, to the late Shirley E. McClaren and Robert Louis Slaton Ed.d. Lyle graduated from South Hopkins High School and studied at Eastern Kentucky University. A Christian and an Eagle Scout, he loved animals, including his dog Major (who must have been so happy to welcome Lyle home), and his many rescued cats. His love of history led him to participate in Civil War and World War II reenactments, as well as his decades-long hobby of building and painting models. One of his WWII models was on display at the Patton Museum at Fort Knox. Lyle was a great storyteller and a generous man. Lyle was a talented artist and his work was featured in the book, “From Green Persimmons to Cranky Parrots.” He was formerly employed as an EMT in Jefferson County, Kentucky.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandparents, Louis R. “Rex” and Mary Ruth Slaton, and Edwin and Elsie McClaren, all of Hopkins County; stepfather, Joseph R. Power; and his brother, Phillip E. Power.
Survivors include his siblings, Andrea L. Slaton of Mississippi; Thomas M. Slaton of California; and Daniel (Elizabeth) L. Slaton and Michael (Gerald) H. Slaton, both of Kentucky; stepmother, Maureen Slaton of Kentucky; nieces, Cynthia Robinson and Lila F. Slaton; nephew, Henry F. Slaton; and several cousins.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, September 26, 2024, in the chapel of Harris Funeral Home with Pastor Eddie Fleming officiating. Burial to follow at Browder Church Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 12 p.m. until the funeral hour on Thursday at the funeral home.
