A lost diamond was found

A lost diamond was found

After a careful search, Melinda Breazeale found a diamond from a treasured piece off her mother’s jewelry, a wedding ring, that was feared lost just earlier that day.

“To say it made her day is an understatement,” Breazeale said. Adding that her mom was “tickled” that she found the diamond and made her precious ring whole.

Breazeale said that on Jan. 17, her mother, Mable Galloway took her two dogs, a Pomeranian named Patches and a larger mix breed named Bonnie, out for a walk. Breazeale said something excited the dogs right outside of Galloway’s home on Road 450 and her mother fell.

“Note that mom couldn’t have gotten up if it hadn’t been for Bonnie,” Breazeale said. “She stood perfectly still and let my mom use her to get up.”

She said that her mom was fine, suffering only some scrapes and bruises but quickly realized something important was missing, a diamond from her ring, an anniversary gift from her late husband, Dwight. Galloway had considered it lost for good.

“Of course we were on our way out there and she said we would never be able to find it,” Breazeale said. “But that was dad’s ring and I wanted to at least try to find it.”

Breazeale said she and her husband, John, carefully searched where Galloway fell.

“I don’t know if it bounced or what but we found it just six or seven feet away from where she fell at the edge of the road,” Breazeale said. “I knew how much it meant to her and I wanted her to have it if at all possible.”

After recovering the diamond, Breazeale took it to Nicole Petit at Petit Jewelers to make the ring whole. It was returned to Galloway last week.

“There aren’t words to describe just how much that ring means to me,” Galloway said. “Having the original diamond found and placed back in my ring is like having a piece of my husband back. The only time I have taken the ring off before this incident was because it was required for surgery. I'm so thankful John and Melinda were able to find it.”

Dwight Galloway gifted Mable the ring on their 50h wedding anniversary on Dec. 19, 2015, when they renewed their vows at Herbert Baptist Church in the House community where they were longtime members and he served as a deacon. Dwight Galloway would pass away the following June.

Mable Galloway has three children, seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Her daughter Elizabeth Turnage has Peyton and Abbey Turnage with her husband Albert. Her son Jame Galloway has Christian, Jacob and Noah Galloway with his wife Melissa.

Breazeale’s children are Samantha Hoskins and Colby Breazeale. Hoskins has a son, Avery, with her husband, Jihida.
