Leroy Clemons has won the Democratic nomination for mayor

Leroy Clemons has won the Democrat nomination for mayor of Philadelphia following Tuesday’s runoff election, according to complete but unofficial results.

Clemons defeated challenger Cassie Henson Hickman with 52.3% of the vote, receiving 379 votes to Hickman’s 345.

Incumbent Mayor James A. Young received 235 votes in the April 1 primary, bringing his fourth term as Philadelphia’s mayor to an end.

Clemons will now face Republican nominee Jim Fulton in the general election on June 3. Fulton, who ran unopposed in the Republican primary, received 466 votes.

A total of 731 votes were cast in Tuesday’s runoff.

Three affidavit ballots are expected to be counted Wednesday morning at City Hall. One absentee ballot was rejected due to missing identification and remains unclaimed.

Philadelphia has  4,394 registered voters, according to records from the April 1 primary.
