Leake Academy’s trip the playoffs was short lived. 

The Rebels opened the Class 5A playoffs with a 5-4 loss to Pillow Academy on Tuesday. On Thursday, Leake won the first game of a doubleheader 10-3 but then fell 12-3 to the Mustangs to see their season come to an end.

Leake ends the season with a 22-9 record, breaking the school record for wins in a season. 

Pillow 12, Leake 3

The Mustangs scored five in the second inning and finished with seven runs in the last two innings to take a nine-run win to take the series from the Rebels. 

After a scoreless first, Pillow scored five in the second and the Rebels never recovered. Leake scored single runs in the second, sixth and seventh while Pillow added three in the sixth and four in the seventh. 

Pillow outhit Leake 11-3 in the contest. Rhett Atkinson hit a solo home run while Riley Myers doubled and scored. Rhett Stovall also singled and scored. 

Bryce Watkins started on the mound and pitched just two innings, giving up five runs on five hits and three walks while striking out two. Stovall pitched the next four innings and gave up four runs won three hits and two walks while striking out two. Jack Harkins pitched the last inning and gave up three unearned runs on three hits. 

Leake 10, Pillow 3

The Rebels used a pair of big innings and took a seven-run win in game 2 of the series. 

Pillow scored one in the top of the third while Leake answered with five in the bottom of the third. Leake added one in the fourth and four in the sixth to go up 10-1. Pillow added two in the top of the seventh for the final margin.

Leake outhit Pillow 8-5 in the contest. Rhett Atkinson was 2-for-3 with three runs scored while Rhett Stovall was 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Whitt Welch and Matthan Weaver each singled, scored twice and had two RBIs. 

Bishop Hardin pitched five innings and gave up one unearned run on three hits and four walks while striking out four. Rece Atkinson pitched two innings and gave up two runs on two hits.

Pillow 5, Leake 4

Leake outhit Pillow 9-6 in the contest. Rhett Stovall was 2-for-3 and scored while Bryce Watkins was 2-for-4. Whitt Welch tripled and drove in two runs while Rhett Atkinson doubled. 

Riley Myers started on the mound for Leake and pitched 5 2/3 innings and gave up four runs, only two earned, on five hits and seven.
