Leake home winning streak now hits 70 games
The Leake Academy girls extended their home winning streak to 70 games but it wasn’t without a heroic effort on Friday night.
The Rebelettes trailed by as many as 13 points early and got two late 3-pointers from Grace Maxey to come from behind and beat Lamar School 45-44 in overtime. The Leake girls also beat Park Place 61-27 on Tuesday.
The Leake boys also had to come from behind to beat Lamar, taking a 45-38 win on Friday night and a 56-42 win on Tuesday.
The Leake girls improve to 26-2 on the season while the Leake boys improve to 15-9 on the season.
Leake has three games this week. They will play at East Central Community College on Monday as the girls will play Leake Central at 11 a.m. and the boys will play Madison St. Joseph at 12:15 p.m. On Tuesday, Leake will travel to Winston and will then play at East Rankin on Friday.

Lamar School 44
The Rebelettes needed overtime to take a come-from-behind win over the Lady Raiders in district play on Friday night.
Lamar opened the game on fire and led 10-0 before Leake finally scored. Lamar extended that lead to 16-3 and led 18-9 at the end of the first period. Leake fought back in the second period and outscored Lamar 15-6 to tie the game at 24-24 at the half. Lamar took that lead back in the third period and outscored Leake 11-6 to lead 35-30 going to the fourth.
Lamar led most of the fourth period but a long 3-pointer by Grace Maxey cut the score to 40-39 late in the period. After Lamar went up 42-39, Maxey hit another long 3-pointer to tie the game at 42-42 and force overtime. Morgan Freeny then hit a free throw and layup as the Rebelettes held on to take the win.
Katye Jones led Leake with nine points and five rebounds while Freeny had nine points and four assists. Maxey also had nine points while Emeri Warren had seven points and seven rebounds. Marleigh Myers came off the bench and had six points and three rebounds.

Lamar School 38
The Rebels overcame an early deficit and took a seven-point win over the Raiders on Friday night.
Lamar started fast and led 18-7 at the end of the first period. But Leake then outscored Lamar 18-7 in the second period to tie the game at 25-25 at the half. Leake then pulled away in the second half and outscored Lamar 12-9 in the third and 8-4 in the fourth to take the win.
Samuel Prince led Leake with 12 points while Matthew Nowell and Whitt Welch each had seven points apiece and Jake Freeny chipped in six points.

Park Place 27
The Rebelettes had little trouble with the Lady Crusaiders as they took a 34-point victory on Tuesday.
Leake outscored Park Place 47-15 in the first half to lead by 32 at the half. Leake then outscored Park Place 14-4 to lead 61-19 going to the fourth. Park Place took the fourth period 8-0 for the final margin.
Morgan Freeny led Leake with 16 pints and three assists while Olivia Rudolph had 10 points and four rebounds. Grace Maxey had 10 points and six steals while Katye Jones had eight points and six steals. Anna Morgan Young and Ella Bell each had six points apiece.

Park Place 42
The Rebels avenged a loss to the Crusaders by taking a 14-point win on Tuesday night in district play.
Park Place led 13-7 at the end of the first period before Leake outscored the Crusaders 14-5 in the second period and took a 21-18 lead into the half. Leake started to pull way in the second half, outscoring Park Place 18-10 in the third and 17-14 in the fourth.
Samuel Prince led Leake with 23 points, five rebounds and three assists while Trey Clark had seven points and four rebounds. Whitt Welch had seven points, four rebounds and four steals.
