The Leake Academy basketball teams wrapped up the regular season last week.

The Rebelettes saw their 70-game home winning streak come to an end as they lost 49-45 to Simpson County Academy for the second time this season.

The Leake boys lost 60-51 to Simpson on Tuesday and finished the regular season on Thursday but thumping Delta Streets 85-51.

Leake will play in the district 2-5A Tournament this week at East Rankin Academy. Both teams will be the No. 2 seeds in the tournament. The Leake girls will play Thursday at 4 p.m. against the winner of Lamar and Park Place. The Leake boys will Thursday at 5:15 p.m. against the winner of Winston and Lamar. The girls championship game is set for Saturday at 2:30 p.m. while the boys championship game is set for 4 p.m.

The Lady Cougars used a big fourth period to come back and beat the Rebelettes for the second time this season.

Leake led 17-14 at the end of the first and each team scored six in the second as the Rebelettes led 23-20 at the half. Leake then outscored Simpson 13-11 in the third and led 36-31 going to the fourth. Simpson then outscored Leake 14-2 to take a 45-38 lead and then held on to take a four-point win.

Emeri Warren led Leake with 11 points and six rebounds while Morgan Freeny had 10 points and three assists. Katye Jones had nine points and 10 rebounds while Allen Kaye Wilcox had six points and three rebounds.

Academy boys 60,

The Cougars pulled away in the second half and took a nine-point win over the Rebels on Tuesday.

Simpson jumped out to a 20-9 lead in the first period before Leake bounced back and outscored the Cougars 21-9 in the second and led 30-29 at the half. Simpson then outscored Leake 18-9 in the third and 13-12 in the fourth to take the win.

Taite Edwards came off the bench to lead Leake with 14 points while Samuel Prince had 12 points. Jake Freeny had seven points while Jack Harkins and Aiden Watkins each had six points apiece.

Leake Academy boys 85, Delta Streets 51

The Rebels used a big second period and pulled away to take a 34-point win over the Lions.

Delta came out hot in the first period and led 21-18 going to the second. But Leake then outscored Delta 25-9 in the second and led 43-32 at the half. Leake then pulled away in the second half and outscored Delta 27-12 in the third and 15-9 in the fourth to take the win.

Samuel Prince led Leake with 26 points while Aiden Watkins had 12 points and Whitt Welch added nine points. Sam Evans had eight points while Jack Harkins had seven points and Trey Clark chipped in six points.
