Leake Academy Rebels pick up first wins of baseball season

The Leake Academy Rebels finally broke into the win column this past week with a pair of wins.

After suffering a tough 7-5 loss to Newton County Academy on Tuesday, the Rebels bounced back with a 6-5 over Manchester Academy on Friday and then beat Hillcrest Christian 16-4 on Friday. The Rebels finished the week as the fell 13-1 to Simpson on Saturday.

Leake Academy will return to play this week as they travel to Manchester on Tuesday and will host Hillcrest on Thursday. During the spring break week, the Rebels will play three games in Vicksburg as they take on St. Aloysius on Monday at 5 p.m. On Tuesday, they will take on Indianola at 10 a.m. and then play Bayou at 11:45 a.m. They will finish out the week on Saturday at Newton County Academy in a 2 p.m. contest.

Manchester 5

The Rebels picked up their first win of the season on Thursday with a one-run win over the Mavericks.

Leake Academy dominated the action early as they scored one in the first and four in the third to go up 5-0. Manchester battled back with three in the fifth and two in the sixth to tie the game at 5-5. The Rebels grabbed the lead back in the bottom of the sixth when Will Swinney scored on a single to right field by Will Martin for the game winner.

Each team had six hits in the contest as Martin was 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs to lead the Rebels.
