Leake Academy girls basketball improves to 10-0

The Leake Academy girls improved to 10-0 on the season with three more wins this past week. 

The Rebelettes took three double-digit wins, beating Starkville 71-30 on Monday, Pillow 61-44 on Tuesday and Central Hinds 61-26 on Thursday. 

The Rebels lost two of three contests but gave coach Jason Morgan his first win at the school. The Rebels fell 58-47 to Starkville and then beat Pillow 59-35 before falling to Central Hinds 54-44 on Thursday. 

Leake has two games scheduled over the Thanksgiving holidays as they will play in the Holiday Shootout at Marshall Academy. 

After the Thanksgiving break, Leake will host Canton on Monday, Nov. 28 and Hartfield on Tuesday, Nov. 29. On Thursday, Dec. 1, Leake will play at Pillow to finish out the week.

Leake girls 71, 

Starkville Academy 30

The Rebelettes started fast and cruised to a 41-point win over the Lady Volunteers on Monday. 

Leake started fast as they outscored Starkville 30-6 in the first quarter and 14-10 in the second to lead 44-16 at the half. Leake then outscored Starkville 23-8 in the third to take a 67-24 lead into the fourth. Starkville took the fourth period 6-4 for the final margin.

Miriam Prince led Leake with 21 points, four assist and three steals. Morgan Freeny had 16 points and seven steals while Katye Jones had 11 points and six rebounds. Emeri Warren had seven points and six rebounds while Allen Kaye Wilcox and Marleigh Myers each had six points apiece. 

Starkville Academy 58, Leake 47

The Volunteers used a big third period to pull away and take an 11-point win over the Rebels on Monday.

Starkville led 18-14 at the end of the first and Leake took the second period 16-15 and trailed 33-30 at the half. But Starkville outscored Leake 15-4 in the third and led 48-34 going to the fourth. The Rebels took the fourth period 13-10 for the final margin.

Samuel Prince led Leake with 23 points while Jack Harkins had seven points.

Leake girls 61, Pillow 44

The Rebelettes overcame a slow start and used a big second period to take a 17-point win over the Lady Mustangs on Tuesday in a battle of MAIS powers.

Emeri Warren led Leake with 15 points, eight rebounds and three steals while Miriam Prince had 12 points snd four assists. Katye Jones had 11 points ad six rebounds while Morgan Freeny had 11 points, four rebounds and three assists. Allen Kaye Wilcox also hit a pair of 3-pointers and had six points. 

Leake boys 59, Pillow 35

The Rebels grabbed their first win of the season as they took a 24-point win over the Mustangs on Tuesday.

Leake started hot as they outscored Pillow 24-8 in the first period and 21-15 in the second to lead 45-23 at the half. Pillow took the third period 12-7 to cut the margin to 52-35 going to the fourth. But Leake outscored Pillow 7-0 in the fourth to take the win.

Whitt Welch had five 3-pointers and led the Rebels with 17 points while Samuel Prince had 15 points. Matthew Nowell had 10 points while Sam Evans had six points and Jake Freeny chipped in five points.

Leake girls 61, 

Central Hinds 26

Playing without Miriam Prince, the Rebelettes outscored the Lady Cougars in every period and cruised to a 35-point win on Thursday.

Emeri Warren led Leake with 17 points while Morgan Freeny had 12 points, six rebounds and three assists. Grace Maxey had nine points and six rebounds while Allen Kaye Wilcox had six points and five rebounds. Katye Jones had five points and eight eight rebounds. 

Central Hinds boys 54, Leake 44

The Cougars finished strong and took an 10-point win over the Rebels on Thursday.

Leake jumped out to an 11-5 lead in the first period but Central Hinds fought back and outscored the Rebels 13-7 to tie the game at 18-18 at the half. Central Hinds then outscored Leake 18-13 in each the third and fourth period for the final margin.

Jake Freeny led Leake with 12 points while Sam Evans had eight points. Aiden Watkins had seven points and Whitt Welch added seven points.
