The Leake Academy baseball team split a pair of games last week in a pair of games at East Central Community College. 

After an 11-0 loss to Kosciusko on Monday, the Rebels bounced back and beat East Webster 15-10 on Wednesday. 

Leake, now 6-5 on the season, will return to action this week as they begin district play. They will travel to Winston Academy on Monday and host the Patriots on Thursday. They will make the return trip to Louisville on Friday to finish the three-game series.

The Rebels took advantage of 12 walks and held on to take a five-run win over the Wolverines in Wednesday’s game at East Central.

Leake scored three in the first and second and led 6-2 after two. Leake added one in the fourth and four in the fifth and led 11-5 after five. The Rebels added one in the sixth and three in the seventh to take the win.

East Webster outhit Leake 11-6 but the Rebels took advantage of 12 walks, five errors and six hit batters. Bishop Hardin was 2-for-3 with a double, three walks and five runs scored. Jake Freeny was 2-for-4 with a double and three runs scored. 

Aiden Watkins started on the mound and pitched 4 2/3 innings, giving up five runs on seven hits and five walks while striking out three. Whitt Welch pitched 2 1/3 innings and gave up five runs on four hits and three walks. 

Kosciusko 11

The Rebels struggled at the plate while the Whippets took advantage of seven walks and two errors. 

After two scoreless innings, Kosciusko scored three in the third and one in the fifth. The Whippets then exploded with seven runs in the sixth to take the win.

Leake managed just three hits as Riley Myers and Whitt Welch each doubled while Aiden Watkins also had a single.

Bishop Hardin started on the mound and pitched five innings and gave up four runs on four hits and a walks while striking out six. Rhett Atkinson pitched 2/3 innings and gave up seven runs on one hit and six walks. John Cross Beckham came in and got the last out.
