Leake Academy baseball riding big win streak
The Leake Academy baseball team won its eighth straight game since a season-opening loss.
The Rebels won three games last week, outscoring opponents 36-6. Leake beat Central Hinds 14-1 on Monday and then beat Ethel 9-5 on Thursday. They finished the week with a 13-0 no-hit win over Newton County Academy on Friday.
Leake improves to 8-1 on the season and will play at Kemper Academy on Tuesday before playing a doubleheader against East Webster on Thursday at East Central, starting at 1 p.m.
Leake 14, Central Hinds 1
The Rebels used a 10-run third inning and took advantage of six errors to take a run-rule win over the Cougars on Monday.
Leake had nine hits in the contest, led by Tanner Walsworth who was 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs. Will Garner was 2-for-3 with two doubles, three runs scored and three RBIs. Majure Chandler also doubled and drove in two runs while Caden Stovall singled and scored twice. Easton Page singled, walked twice and scored three runs while Ryals Wilkerson had two stolen bases.
Jack Harkins started on the mound and pitched all five innings, giving up one unearned run on five hits and a walk, striking out four batters and throwing just 59 pitcher.
Leake 9, Ethel 5
The Rebels overcame an early deficit and scored eight runs over five innings to take a four-run win over the Tigers on Thursday.
Leake had nine hits in the contest, led by Jack Harkins who was 3-for-5 and led the game off with a home run. Majure Chandler was 2-for-4 while Easton Page doubled and scored twice. Matthan Weaver returned for the Rebels and singled and scored twice. Matthew Nowell also singled and scored twice. Caden Stovall started on the mound and picked up the win, going four innings and gave up four runs on four hits and a walk while striking out eight. Page pitched the last three innings and gave up one unearned run on two hits and three walks while striking out four.
Leake 13, Newton County Academy 0
The Rebels no-hit the Generals and used an eight-run sixth inning to take a run-rule in on Friday.
Leake had 17 hits in the contest, led by Gage Warren who was 4-for-5 with three doubles and two RBIs.
Will Garner started on the mound and pitched four innings, giving up just four walks while striking out seven. Matthew Nowell pitched two innings and walked one and struck out three.
