Leake Academy baseball drops series against Lamar
The Leake Academy baseball team had another tough week on the baseball diamond.
The Rebels opened the week with a 5-2 win over Lamar School on Tuesday but then dropped the next two games of the series, falling 11-1 on Thursday and 4-1 on Friday.
Leake is now 15-6 on the season and will face Park Place in a three-game series this week. Game 1 was scheduled for Monday in Madden while Game 2 will be Tuesday at Park Place in Pearl. The series will then return to Leake on Thursday to finish out the series.
Leake 5, Lamar 2
The Rebels took an early lead and held on to take a three-run win over the Raiders to open the series on Tuesday.
Leake scored three in the first, one in the second and fifth while Lamar scored both of its runs in the first inning.
Leake had six hits in the contest, led by Tanner Walsworth who was 2-for-3 with a home run, two runs scored and two RBIs. Easton Page was 2-for-3 while Tyler Winstead and Will Garner each singled and drove in a run.
Caden Stovall started on the mound and pitched six innings and gave up two runs on four hits and four walks while Matthew Nowell pitched the seventh inning and got the save.
Lamar 11, Leake 1
The Raiders used a pair of grand slams to take a five-inning, run-rule win on Thursday to tie the series.
Lamar scored single runs in the first and second while Leake scored one in the third to cut the lead to 2-1 going to the fourth. But Lamar scored four in the fourth and five in the fifth with back-to-back grand slams.
Leake had five hits in the contest as Will Garner was 2-for-2 with a double. Jack Harkins doubles while Gage Warren singled and scored.
Garner started on the mound and pitched four innings and took the loss, giving up six runs on eight hits and three walks while striking out seven. Easton Page pitched the fifth inning and gave up five runs on two hits and five walks.
Lamar 4, Leake 1
The Rebels were unable to hold onto an early lead as the Raiders again used the long ball to take a three-run win and take the series win.
Leake scored one in the first while Lamar scored all four runs in the third inning.
Leake had just four hits as Jack Harkins singled and scored in the first inning. Tyler Winstead, Gage Warren and Easton Page each singled for the Rebels.
Harkins started on the mound and pitched 5 1/3 innings and gave up four runs on seven hits and three walks while striking out five. Matthew Nowell came in and got the last two outs for the Rebels.
