Lady Rockets tip off new basketball season with 5-0 start

The Neshoba Central Lady Rockets are off to a 5-0 start under second-year head coach Jason Broom.

Last week, the Lady Rockets picked up a 74-31 win over Kosciusko. Earlier, the Lady Rockets have defeated Leake Central 71-25, Choctaw Central 72-59. Pearl 66-35 and Kosciusko 81-31.

The Rockets are playing without their football players in the early games and stand at 1-3. They dropped their opener to Leake Central 52-25 and then lost 68-45 to Choctaw Central and 61-59 to Pearl. The Rockets defeated Kosciusko 55-50 last week.

The Rockets teams have two games this week. They were to take on Leake Central Tuesday and visit Northeast Lauderdale later in the week.

Neshoba Central opened the season with a big win over Leake Central. The Lady Rockets went up 43-11 at the half. Shaylynn Hunter led with 15 points while Hama’ya Fielder scored 13. Zheria Leflore put in 11 points.

The Lady Rockets outscored Choctaw Central 22-10 in the second quarter and went up 34-23 at the half. The Lady Warriors battled back but Neshoba Central held on for the victory. Hama’ya Fielder led with 28 points while Carly Keats added 13.

Leading 38-28 at the half, the Lady Rockets outscored Pontotoc 23-14 in the third quarter and held on for the win. Hunter led with 20 points while Keats put in 16 points and Fielder scored 11 points.

Leading 34-23 at the half, Neshoba Central dominated the second half in their win over Pearl. Fielder scored 19 points while Veronica Williams put in 11.

The Lady Rockets led Kosciusko 33-12 at the half. Neshoba Central then outpointed the Lady Whippets 25-9 in the third quarter and held on for the win. Hunter led with 20 points while Fielder scored 14 and Leflore put in 13.

Rockets

Neshoba Central started off cold against Leake Central and trailed 25-9 at the half. Zae Goodin and Dexter Spencer scored 7 points each to lead the Rockets

The Warriors outscored the Rockets 15-9 in the second quarter and led 44-15 at the half. The Rockets outscored Choctaw Central 30-24 in the second half. William Dreifuss led the Rockets with 12 points while R.J. Hunter scored 10.

The Pearl Pirates slipped past the Rockets by 2 points. Goodin led with 21 points while Garrison Breedlove scored 11 points.

Leading 28-27 at the half, the Rockets outscored Kosciusko 20-10 in the third quarter and held on for the victory. Goodin led with 15 points while Dorshay Cole put in 10 points and Breedlove scored nine points.
