The Neshoba Central Lady Rockets opened Class 5A playoff action Monday with a 12-1 victory over Center Hill in fast-pitch softball action.

The two teams were to meet again Tuesday for the second game at Neshoba Central. The Lady Rockets are ranked No. 1 in the nation and stand at 25-0.

The Lady Rockets tuned up for the playoffs with two close games against Region 4-4A champion West Lauderdale last week. They won the first game 3-2 and the second 9-4.

Elleigh Willis was the winning pitcher in both games. She struck out eight in game one and four in game two.

In the first game, Neshoba scored one in the first, one in the third and one in the seventh. West Lauderdale scored one in the second and one in the bottom of the seventh. Tenly Grisham had two hits and scored two runs.

In the second game, the Lady Rockets scored one in the first, one in the second, four in the third and four in the fifth,

Kylee Thompson had one hit, scored two runs and knocked in two more. Charmayne Morris had two hits and scored a run. AnnaLeigh Jones hit a double and knocked in two runs. Shante Beaulieu hit a double.

Playoffs

The Philadelphia Lady Tornadoes lost two games to West Lincoln in the first round of the Class 2A playoffs and were eliminated. They finished with an 8-10 record.

The Choctaw Central girls defeated North Pontotoc in two games to advance to the second round of the Class 4A playoffs. The Lady Warriors were playing Yazoo City in the second round.

The Union girls opened the Class 2A playoffs with a two-game sweep of Bogue Chitto. The Lady Yellowjackets were playing St. Patrick in the second round.
