Lady Rockets capture region title in overtime


The Neshoba Central girls basketball team closed out its Region 3-5A schedule with a 60-57 overtime victory over Holmes County Central last Tuesday in the Rockets’ gym.

The Lady Rockets will close out the regular season with two scheduled games. They will host Noxubee County Tuesday and visit Madison Central on Friday.

Next week, the Neshoba Central teams will host the Region 3-5A tournament. The Lady Rockets will take on Canton in the first round on Tuesday.

Hama’ya Fielder scored 20 points to lead the Lady Rockets past Holmes County Central. The Lady Jaguars went up 32-19 at the half. But the Lady Rockets came storming back in the second half. They outscored Holmes 35-22 in two quarters and sent the game to overtime tied at 54-54. Neshoba Central outscored the Lady Jaguars6-3 in overtime and took the victory,

“It was a good victory,” Coach Jason Broom said. “We won our region in the regular season and now we are looking forward to the playoffs.”

Shay Hunter scored 14 points and Veronica Williams scored 10 points.

The Neshoba Central boys dropped 66-47 loss to Holmes County.
