The Neshoba Central Lady Rockets have advanced to the Class 5A North State finals with playoff sweeps over Center Hill and Grenada.

Who the Lady Rockets will play in North State remains a question. New Hope and Saltillo have not been able to complete their series because of bad weather.

North State will be played this weekend. The winners advance to the state championship round the following weekend which will be held at Mississippi State in Starkville.

The Lady Rockets now stand at 28-0 and are ranked No. 1 in the nation according to the USA national poll of high school fast-pitch softball teams.

The Lady Rockets opened the Mississippi High School Activities Association playoffs with a sweep of Center Hill, 12-1 and 10-0. This past weekend, they swept Grenada 13-0 and 6-1.

Elleigh Willis was the winning pitcher in both games. She struck out six in the first game and eight in the second game.

In game one, the Lady Rockets scored two in the first, three in the second, four in the fourth and three in the fifth.

Kylee Thompson hit a home run and knocked in three runs. Shante Beaulieu also hit a home run. Willis had two hits. Charmayne Morris hit a double and a single, scored two runs and knocked in three more. Tenly Grisham had two hits, scored three runs and knocked in another. Mauhree Jones and Hama’ya Fielder both hit a double.

In game two, the Lady Rockets outhit Center Hill 10-2.

Neshoba Central scored three in the first, two in the second, two in the third and one in the fourth. Center Hill scored one run in the third.

Grisham had three hits, scored three runs and knocked in two more. Thompson and Willis both hit a double, scored a run and knocked in two runs. Beaulieu hit a double.

The Lady Rockets opened the series with Grenada by scoring seven in the first and six in the fifth.

Beaulieu hit a double and a single. She scored one run and knocked in three more. Thompson hit a single, scored two runs and knocked in two more. Grisham had two hits, scored two runs and knocked in another.

The Lady Rockets then took the second game in seven innings. They scored one in the first, one in the fifth, one in the sixth and three in the third. Grenada’s run came in the sixth inning.

Grisham had three hits, scored two runs and knocked in another. Thompson had one hit and knocked in two runs. Beaulieu had one hit and scored one run.

Willis was the winning pitcher in both games.
