Lady Rebels wrap up another district title

The Leake Academy softball team only managed one win last week but it was a big one.

The Lady Rebels beat Simpson 9-7 on Monday as they secured another district championship.

Leake also played in the Jackson Prep Tournament, falling 5-1 to Marshall and tying Copiah 4-4.

Leake will return home this week as they host Park Place on Monday and East Rankin on Tuesday to round out the regular season.

Leake will then be a No. 1 seed and play in the North 5A tournament on Saturday and Monday at Magnolia Heights.

Simpson 7

The Lady Rebels held off a late charge from the Lady Cougars to take a two-run win on Monday.

Leake scored one in the first, three in the third and one in the fourth to lead 5-0. But Simpson scored three in the fifth and two in the sixth to tie the game at 5-5. Leake then scored four in the top of the seventh and held Simpson to two in the bottom of the frame for the final margin.

Leake had nine hits in the contest and took advantage of four errors by Simpson.

Lily McDonald was 4-for-4 and scored two runs while Miley Billie homered and scored two runs. Olivia Rudolph and Emmajane Lepard each doubled and drove in two runs while Raylea Atkinson also doubled.

Lynleigh Burt pitched all seven innings as she scattered 13 hits and four walks while striking out six.

Marshall 5

The Lady Patriots scored early and held on to take a four-run win over the Lady Rebels on Saturday at the Jackson Prep Tournament at the Magee Sportsplex.

Marshall scored two in the first and three in the third while Leake scored one in the fourth.

Marshall outhit Leake 7-6 in the contest. Miley Billie was 2-for-3 with a double while Emeri Warren was also 2-for-3. 25 doubled and scored a run while Grace Maxey singled and drove in a run.

Burt started and pitched two innings while Raylea Atkinson pitched the last three innings.

The Lady Rebels scored two runs in the fifth and tied with the Lady Colonels on Saturday in a time-limit game.

Copiah scored one in the second and three in the fourth. Leake scored two in the third and fifth innings.

Leake had just five hits as Miley Billie was 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Emeri Warren singled and drove in two runs while Caroline Cheatham singled and scored two runs.
