Lady Rebels struggle to hit in 2-0 softball loss

The rain almost got the Leake Academy softball team last week.

Instead, it was the East Rankin pitching.

The Lady Rebels managed only one hit and struck out 17 times as East Rankin took a 2-0 win on Tuesday in a district 2-5A contest.

Leake will return to play this week as they travel to Winston on Tuesday. On Wednesday, Leake will travel to Magee and finish a game with Simpson County Academy. Leake led 3-0 in that contest. On Saturday, Leake will play at the Jackson Prep Tournament

The Lady Rebels fell in a pitcher’s duel on Tuesday to the Lady Patriots in a district contest. 

The game was originally scheduled to be played at Leake but heavy rains on Tuesday forced the change.

The game was scoreless for the first five innings until East Rankin scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth. 

Leake had just one hit on a single by Grace Maxey, who also reached on a walk. The Lady Rebels struggled at the plate, striking out 17 times. 

Raylea Atkinson started in the circle for Leake and went all six innings. The junior hurler gave up two runs on three hits and three walks.
