Lady Rebels split pair in ECCC tournament

The Leake Academy Lady Rebels kicked off the fast-pitch softball season this week with a pair of games at East Central Community College on Saturday.

The Lady Rebels lost the home opener 4-2 to Hartfield and then bounced back to beat Newton County Academy 5-1. 

Leake has three games scheduled for this week as they will travel to Newton on Monday and then host the Lady Generals on Thursday. They finish out the week on Friday at defending state champion, Hillcrest Christian.

The Lady Rebels scored three runs late to pull away and beat the Lady Generals on Saturday.

After four scoreless innings, Leake scored two in the top of the fifth and three in the top of the seventh. NCA scored its lone run in the fifth.

Leake outhit NCA 5-3 in the contest. Emeri Warren had three RBIs while Olivia Rudolph and Raylea Atkinson singled and scored a run. Carolyn Cheatham singled and scored twice.

Lynleigh Burt started and pitched four innings and struck out four without giving up a hit. Atkinson pitched the last three innings and gave up one run on three hits.

The Lady Rebels struck early but couldn’t pull out the win in the season opener on Saturday.

Leake scored both of its runs in the top of the first while Hartfield answered with three in the bottom of the first and one in the fifth.

Hartfield outhit Leake 14-7 in the contest. Lilly McDonald was 3-for-3 to lead the Lady Rebels. Jenna Chamblee was 2-for-4 with a double while Emeri Warren tripled. Grace Maxey had Leake’s other hit.

Raylea Atkinson started and pitched four innings for Leake, giving up three runs on nine hits and three walks. Lynleigh Burt pitched the last two innings and gave up one run on five hits.
