Lady Rebels split two on the diamond

The Leake Academy softball team got in two games last week and split a pair of games.

The Lady Rebels opened the week with a 16-2 win over Newton County Academy, avenging a nine-run loss to the Lady Generals earlier this season. The Lady Generals then lost a 5-4 decision to Pillow Academy on Thursday.

Leake will return to play this week as they host Clinton Christian on Monday for the home opener and then play on Tuesday at Simpson County Academy. The Lady Rebels will then play at the Belhaven Tournament on Saturday.

Leake 16, NCA 2

The Lady Rebels scored early and often and took a four-inning, run-rule win over the Lady Generals on Monday.

Leake scored five in the first, one in the second, four in the third and six in the fourth.

Leake banged out 15 hits in the contest and took advantage of six errors and three walks. Brealynn Malone was 3-for-4 with a triple, two runs scored and three RBIs while Raylee Quick was 3-for-4 as well. Codi Breedlove was 2-for-3 and scored three runs while Marleigh Myers was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs. Lilly McDonald singled, walked twice and drove in two runs while Sydney Jones singled and drove in two runs.

Quick started in the circle and pitched all four innings, giving up two runs on four hits and four walks while striking out seven to pick up the win.

Pillow 5, Leake 4

The Lady Mustangs scored in the bottom of the seventh to take a walk-off win over the Lady Rebels on Thursday.

Pillow led 2-0 after three innings and 4-1 after four innings. Leake then scored one in the fifth and two in the sixth to tie the game at 4-4. Pillow then scored in the bottom of the seventh to taketh win.

Leake outhit Pillow 8-6 in the contest. Codi Breedlove was 2-for-4 with an RBI while Brealynn Malone and Kylee Boykin each doubled and scored a run for Leake. Sydney Jones singled and scored while Raylee Quick singled and drove in a run.

Quick started in the circle and pitched all six-plus innings. She gave up five runs on six hits and four walks while striking out five.
