Lady Rebels improve to 19-0 with blowout win

The Leake Academy Lady Rebels continued its roll with another blowout win last week.

The Lady Rebels improved to 19-0 on the season as they blasted Heritage 74-42 on Friday in a district contest.

The Rebels couldn't hold onto a halftime lead as Heritage, the defending Class AAA state champion, rallied to take a 60-42 win.

Leake will return to play this week as they host Lamar on Tuesday and will travel to Winston Academy on Friday. Leake will close out the week on Saturday as they will travel to Simpson Academy in a non-district contest.

The Lady Rebels used a steady supply of offense to take a 32-point win over the Lady Patriots in district play on Friday.

Leake led 19-11 at the end of the first but. The Lady Rebels got going in the second as they outscored Heritage 21-10 and led 40-21 at the half. The Lady Rebels turned up the defense in the third, outscoring Heritage 18-2 in the third to take a 58-23 lead into the fourth. Heritage outscored Leake 19-16 in the fourth for the final margin.


Emmi Harkins led Leake with 20 points, four rebounds and three assists. Morgan Freeny had 13 points and five rebounds while Miriam Prince had seven points, five steals, four rebounds and four assists. Mabry Mayfield had six points and seven rebounds while Ashley Smith, Emeri Warren and Savanna Greer also had six points each.

The Rebels gave the defending Class AAA champions all they wanted for a half before the Patriots pulled away in the second half.

Leake played the defending champions tough in the first half as they outscored Heritage 14-9 in the first period. Each team scored 14 in the second half and the Rebels led 28-23 at the half. But the Patriots got going in the second half as they outscored the Rebels 16-5 in the third and 21-9 in the fourth.

Ben Harrison led Leake with 15 points while Hagan Davis had eight points. Thomas Word Strength had six points and Henry Dabbs had five points.

Ole Miss football signee Eli Acker had 17 points to lead Heritage while Jared Long added 16 points.
