Lady Rebels close in on district championship
The Leake Academy Lady Rebels moved a few steps closer to another district championship last week with a pair of wins.
Leake Academy no-hit Winston Academy 10-0 on Tuesday and then took an 8-2 win over East Rankin on Thursday.
Leake Academy, now 16-2 on the season, is scheduled to play at Simpson on Monday and then host Magnolia Heights on Tuesday. The Lady Rebels will then play in Jackson Prep Tournament at the Magee Sportsplex on Saturday. Leake will then host Park Place on Monday and East Rankin on Tuesday

The Lady Rebels got a no-hitter from Lynleigh Burt as they shut out the Lady Patriots in a five-inning district win on Tuesday.
Leake Academy scored single runs in the second and third before exploding for six runs in the fourth and two in the fifth to take the win.
Leake had 13 hits in the contest. Jenna Chamblee was 3-for-4 with a triple and two RBIs while Olivia Rudolph was 2-for-3 with a double, triple, two runs scored and two RBIs. Emmajane Lepard was 2-for-3 and scored two runs while Caroline Cheatham was 2-for-2 and scored two runs. Emeri Warren was 2-for-3 while Lily McDonald doubled and drove in two runs. Marleigh Myers also doubled and scored a run.
Burt pitched all five innings and struck out seven and hit just one batter.

East Rankin 2
Each team had nine hits but the Lady Rebels were able to score their runners as they took a six-run win over the Lady Patriots on Thursday in a makeup contest.
Leake Academy scored three in the first and one in the second and led 3-2 after three innings. Leake added single runs in the fourth and fifth innings before finishing with two in the sixth.
Miley Billie was 2-for-3 with a double and two runs scored while Lepard was 2-for-4 with two doubles. Grace Maxey was 2-for-2 with two walks, two RBIs and two stolen bases.
Burt pitched all seven innings as she scattered nine hits and two walks while striking out six.
