Kennedy to resign post as election commissioner
Heather Kennedy on Monday informed the Neshoba County Board of Supervisors that she would be resigning as District 4 Election Commissioner effective Dec. 30 to run for political office.
Kennedy has served 14 years in the position and is the commission chairman. She informed the board in a letter that she will be running for Circuit Clerk in the 2023 general election.
Supervisors will appoint an interim election commissioner until a special election can be held to fill Kennedy’s unexpired term.
In other matters, supervisors voted to:
• Accept an alcohol grant for the Sheriff’s Department. Supervisors also approved the hiring of Amanda Wilkerson effective Jan. 3, 2023, at $17.50 per hour, and approved a one dollar per hour pay increase for deputy Matthew Winstead who has received his Advanced Roadside Impaired Driver Enforcement Certification;
• Accepted the resignation of one correctional officer at the jail and hired another;
• Approve the hiring of Robert Swann as a CDL driver for the Road Department;
• Approve paying the 2023 Mississippi Chapter IAAO dues totaling $10 for the Tax Collector’s Office;
• Approve the application for an Emergency Management Performance Grant for Fiscal Year 2023. Supervisors approved the removal of a HP LaserJet 4200n printer from the inventory, and the purchase of a new printer at the 911 center;
• Approve a travel request for Emergency Management employees to attend the MEMA District 6 meeting at ECCC on Jan. 17. They also approved the payment of $780 for the renewal of a Baron Threat Net Weather Radar subscription;
• Approve a $167 reimbursement request from Justice Court;
• Approve the county employee payroll ending Dec. 12 totaling $261,631;
• Approve the elected officials payroll ending Dec. 15 totaling $69,619;
• Approve paying the claims docket and the out of order claims;
• Accept a check from Wilmington Trust for the National Opioid Settlement;
• Acknowledge the Mississippi Department of Revenue’s approval of the county’s Real and Personal Property Rolls for 2022;
• Approve paying Century Construction’s pay application No. 8 totaling $166,064 for work on the Taylor Mast Project;
• Approve paying Pritchard Engineering’s invoice totaling $1,200 for testing services on the Taylor project;
• Approve paying $300 for Mississippi Association of Supervisors annual membership dues and the educational conference fee;
• Approve the payment of $2,000 to the Soil and Water Conservation District for the Beaver Program;
• Accepted East Central Community College’s FY2020 and FY2021 audit reports; and,
• Approve a request of CPC for Sanctity of Life Month – Sunday, Jan. 22.
