Callie Marshall is home for spring break from St. Petersburg, Fla., where she is a freshman at Eckerd College. Although she didn't know a single person there, Callie chose Eckerd because it offers the best curriculum for her major, Marine Biology, with a lot of opportunities for practical applications of coursework. She has made a lot of new friends and loves the college.

It is also the perfect place for her to indulge in her favorite hobby, diving! She recently earned her “Master Diver” certification which involved lessons and extensive supervised practice dives. Her father, Gabe Marshall, is an avid diver. He flew down to St. Petersburg last Friday and they spent time diving and came home on Sunday night. Her family is so excited to have her home.

The ladies of Holy Cross Catholic Church recently gave two bridal showers, one for Natalie Hall on Feb. 19 and another for Cati Barnhill on March 15 in the Church Hall.

Guests enjoyed a variety finger food which was brought by the ladies along with many lovely gifts for the honorees. Each was also presented with a pretty corsage. Best wishes for a lifetime of happiness!

Congratulations to Mary Presley Harrington of Brandon who was recently named a William Winter Scholar at East Central Community College!

She and her English instructor, Tanya Bole, recently attended the NLLC in New Orleans where they were recognized as William Winter Scholars. Each Winter Scholar is chosen by his or her Educational Division as the most outstanding student, faculty member, or professional. The event was hosted by Copiah-Lincoln Community College.

Tanya Boler taught English at Philadelphia High School years ago. She taught my daughter and I taught her son, Corey, in third grade the same year!
