Congratulations to Kristen McCombs Huffman who was awarded a Master of Education in School Counseling. She earned her degree from the University of West Alabama.

Her diploma represents a lot of intense study and hard work.  Not only was she studying, she was also being a wife, mother and working! Her perseverance and dedication resulted in her achieving her long desired goal. Kristen attributes a lot of her success to her husband, David Huffman, and her sons who helped so much with the entire process. She also appreciated the encouragement from her coworkers.

Neshoba Central Elementary School presented Rocket Awards on January 14. These awards are highly prized by both the students who receive them and their parents. They are tangible evidence that the children are headed in the right direction in their character development by exemplifying positive and desirable character traits in a school setting.

Among those receiving a Rocket Award were Parks Sansing, son of Josh and Jhuan Sparnecht Sansing, and Griffin Mars, son of Sam and Jillian Sparnecht Mars. The boys are first cousins which made it even more special. Congratulations to the boys and their parents!

The historic Hoover-Randle Home and Gardens in Hoover, Alabama were the setting for the wedding of Leah Adkison and Heath Chancey on the evening of October 23, 2020.

The bride wore a floor length gown of white tulle and lace. Her long veil was edged in matching lace and she carried a bouquet of white flowers. She looked beautiful as she walked from the house down a garden path flanked by flowers and greenery to the covered archway where her groom waited. The couple exchanged vows before the assembled guests.

A reception was held inside the home where the bride and groom cut their traditional wedding cake together.  Guests enjoyed an evening of celebrating the newlyweds.

The new Mr. and Mrs. Chancey reside in Birmingham, Alabama where they are both employed. They took a delayed honeymoon to Gatlinburg, Tennessee the end of November and first of December.

Leah Chancey is a former resident of Philadelphia and a graduate of Philadelphia High School. Her parents are the late Jean Adkison of Philadelphia and Wayne Adkison of Florida.

The snowfall last Monday was such an amazing event!  The snowflakes were huge and fell at an astonishing rate, swirling through the darkness. I was out on our back deck beneath a lighted overhang watching them fall so rapidly that they made me dizzy

Snow has fascinated me all of my life. As a child, it was magical to go to sleep with a barren, wintery landscape and wake up to a dazzling white wonderland. We spent hours playing outdoors in the snow.  We changed our mittens and gloves when they got wet and hung them in the kitchen to dry.  We built snow forts for snowball fights, made snow angels, snowmen and, of course, we all had sleds with metal runners which flew across the snow packed roads. We also made snow ice cream.  The snow lasted for days at a time, so we had a lot of time to play in it.

We had snow every year that I lived in New Mexico. It was a part of my life and I never got over being fascinated by it.  I get excited about snow here in the south where the snow covered trees and shrubs are absolutely breathtakingly beautiful.  I enjoyed all of the snow pictures posted on Facebook of the excited children, adults, and even dogs having such fun in the snowcovered landscape. I hope we don't have to wait another three years for a snowfall!
