After spending many stressful months in Mississippi under quarantine, it seemed as though three friends had stepped into a small slice of Paradise.  Maudean McAdory Sanders, Genie Hall, and Wanda Brackeen stepped off their plane into another world.

They unpacked their luggage at the Kauai Beach Villas which would be their base on this beautiful island. Maudean had booked several tours to explore the many fascinating sites they were eager to see.

The Botanical Garden tour introduced them to many varieties of lush flora which are naïve to the island. It was amazing to see so many spectacular flowers which grow in the wild in one place.

A visit to Lydgate Farms taught them about the whole process of chocolate making from the plants that grow the cacao beans to the end result.  It was so educational. One might never think past a piece of chocolate candy to its origin from plants.

They toured the Sugarloaf Pineapple Farm which was fascinating. They learned so much about pineapple farming and harvesting the pineapples for consumers. Genie, Maudean, and Wanda each planted a pineapple in a pineapple field under the supervision of a farm worker. It takes about two years for the pineapples to mature, so Genie plans to take Maudean back to harvest theirs in 2022.

The trip was filled with gorgeous scenery, fabulous sunsets, beautiful beaches, good food, waterfalls, and so much more.  They saw a sea turtle come ashore to lay her eggs on the beach and visited the Kilauea Lighthouse which was once used by ships sailing along the island.

It was a welcome relief to experience such a glorious change of scenery even for a little while. However, the pandemic was inescapable. Maudean said that the people took mask wearing very seriously, and reminded those who forgot to "put your mask on." No one seemed to become irate or upset by this. The three were busy the entire time and when they settled into their seats on the plane, they were three happy, but very tired people! What a wonderful vacation!

Neshoba Central Elementary School received a donation of hand sanitizer and hand soap courtesy of Daniel Renfre's mother, Angel, and Advanced Auto Parts of Philadelphia.  Our schools have been so fortunate to receive donations such as this one which help combat the spread of the virus. Thank you to all who have donated.
