Jockey dies following race at Fairgrounds
A Jockey from Kiln died Wednesday evening following a race at the Neshoba County Fair, according to Neshoba County Coroner Myron Williams.
The man has been identified as 52-year-old Jarrod Deschamp of Kiln, Williams said. Williams said the man died around 4:15 p.m.
Williams said Deschamp’s death is believed to be related to respiratory issues he was experiencing after a race. He said the cause of death would fall under natural causes.
This is the second issue involving a jockey at the 2024 Neshoba County Fair.
A jockey named Jordan Goss, 27, of Philadelphia, experienced numerous injuries on Sunday around 5 p.m. when his horse ran into the fence at the turn at the southwest end of the race track. Reportedly the horse flipped over the fence and Goss went under it.
Goss was transported to Neshoba Genral Hospital and was later transported to the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson.
His sister-in-law Savanna Goss said he is in good spirits but suffered numerous lacerations and multiple broken bones.
Latest reports say Goss is back at home.
