Republican Fulton elected mayor of Philadelphia
Republicans sweep alderman seats
Republican Jim Fulton has been elected mayor of Philadelphia, winning with 51.48% of the vote, according to complete but unofficial results.
Fulton won Tuesday’s general election by defeating Democratic challenger Leroy Clemons, 942 votes to 888.
A total of 202 absentee ballots were counted Tuesday night. Affidavit ballots will be counted at City Hall at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday.
Ward 1
In the Ward 1 Alderman race, Republican Bert Turcotte defeated Democrat challenger Avia J. Jackson, 340 votes to 138.
Ward 2
In Ward 2, Republican Mark Cheatham won with 467 votes. He ran unopposed in the general election after defeating Bill Griffis in the April 1 primary.
Ward 3
Democrat Darnell Horne won the Ward 3 Alderman race, defeating Republican challenger Kenneth L. “Kenny” Hillman, 213 votes to 166.
Ward 4
In Ward 4, incumbent Alderman Shaun Seales, an Independent, was re-elected unopposed with 455 votes.
Alderman-at-Large
In the Alderman-at-Large race, incumbent Republican James Waltman defeated Democrat challenger Zaus Kirkland, 973 votes to 859.
“I am honored to be elected as your next mayor,” Fulton told the Democrat Tuesday night.
“This is a moment I will always be grateful for, and I want to sincerely thank everyone who supported this campaign.”
He went on to say, “Whether you cast your vote, shared your ideas, knocked on doors, or simply offered words of encouragement, your involvement made all the difference. I could not have done this without you.
“I believe in this city. I believe in its people, its values, and its potential. I’m excited for what lies ahead, and I’m ready to lead with integrity, purpose, and a deep commitment to the future we all want to see.
“There will be hard work, and there will be challenges, but I’m confident that together, we can meet them head-on and come out stronger. Thank you for your trust. I’m ready to serve, and I look forward to building a brighter future for all of us.”
