Janie Ruth Edwards Blount, age 84, was born at home in the Fork community of Neshoba County.   She lived her whole life in this county.  She was a homemaker and stay-at-home mom until beginning her tenure at Neshoba Central Elementary School, serving as first grade assistant teacher and Parent Resource Center Coordinator.  She retired from the Neshoba County School District in 2010.   Mrs. Blount loved children and was proud to have taught so many to read.  She was an avid reader herself and encouraged a love for learning.

She married the love of her life, Norman, during her senior year of high school.   Many have expressed never having witnessed a couple more in love.  They celebrated 60 plus years of marriage.   Part of Janie died on April 27, 2016, when Norman passed.  He was her heart.  Mrs. Blount was a member of Spring Creek Baptist Church where she taught children’s Sunday School, VBS, sang in the choir, and served on various committees, including interior and flower committees.   Her love of flowers made her a natural for choosing beautiful flowers and wreaths for the church.

Janie was known for her beautifully landscaped yard and her plants.   Her ferns were enormous and in great demand for event decorating.   She grew numerous varieties of day lilies and added to her collection each year.   She loved her vegetable gardens.  She was quite the gracious southern lady, and kept a lovely home, and cooked delicious meals for her family & friends.   Her specialties included chicken dressing, pecan & coconut pies and buttermilk biscuits. Family meant the world to Mrs. Blount.  She was extremely proud that each member of her lineage was educated and successful.  She lived to see five generations of children to love as had her mother.
