Interacting with K-9 during career week thrills kids

Kindergarteners got to play on a military tank during Community Helpers Week at Neshoba Central Elementary last week.

Firefighters, military personnel, police officers and paramedics came to show the children the different equipment they work with and what they do for a living to keep the community safe.

The students also got classroom visits from doctors, dentists, bankers and local Postal workers.

The children were even able to interact with a K-9 from the Mississippi Highway Patrol and learn the different ways the dog can stop criminals.

Throughout the week, the children applied the different careers to their studies by reading books about various occupations.

“Community Helpers Week is the kindergartener’s favorite week,” said Tiffany Plott, principal of Neshoba Central Elementary.

Plott said most of the volunteers who came were parents.

“Each day, the students would journal about the different things they saw and what they learned,” Plott said.

The children even got to interact with the different equipment used by various professionals, including getting to play on a military tank.
